I'm fundraising for...Chaplaincy at Severnlea School
Hi. My name is Janine Barden. I have the honour of being the Chaplain at a small rural school on the Granite Belt.
I have worn several hats over the years, but the cap I have most enjoyed is my current role as a Chaplain at Severnlea State Primary.
Chaplaincy in the school context extends beyond the beautiful children to networking with their families, the staff and to the wider community.
The core values of a chaplain are to provide social, spiritual, and emotional care. We do this by respecting the dignity and worth of all persons. We are mindful of inclusivity and diversity. The tools we use are compassion, pastoral care, respect, professional competency and ethical practice.
In any chaplaincy context, establishing a relationship is the starting place.
The work of SU QLD Chaplaincy program is made possible, in part, through funding from the Australian Federal and State governments.
Currently, the funding employs a school chaplain for less than two days a week, which is often not enough to meet demand for most school communities.
This is where your support comes in. Thanks to generous friends like you, almost half of the time I am a chaplain in schools is a direct result of your faithful support.
Please donate and support the work I do as a Chaplain.
How do I measure if my time has been effective?
When a child who regularly disengages is now regularly attending.
When the relationships between parent and child is restored.
When a parent receives the support from an agency to which they have been referred is successful.
When a child says “Chappy can you join our game”
