Hello, my name is Sandy Wood, and I have the privilege of serving as School Chaplain at Centenary Heights State High School on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and Toowoomba State High School on Thursdays and Fridays.
Together, these two school communities are home to approximately 2,750 students—around 1,900 students at Centenary Heights and 850 students at Toowoomba State High. Each young person has their own unique story, challenges and opportunities, and I am privileged to walk alongside many of them during some of life's most significant moments.
I am passionate about providing social, emotional and pastoral support to students, staff and families by offering encouragement, compassion and a listening ear when life feels overwhelming. School chaplaincy creates a safe and welcoming space where young people can feel seen, supported and valued. For many students, this support provides hope, stability and encouragement during difficult times.
Alongside individual pastoral care, I coordinate Breakfast Clubs and student wellbeing programs that foster connection, build resilience and create opportunities for students to develop healthy relationships and life skills.
School chaplaincy is only partly funded by the government, which means we rely on the generosity of our local community to continue providing these important services. Every contribution helps support the wellbeing of students and enables us to continue offering practical care, mentoring, Breakfast Clubs and wellbeing programs across both school communities.
