BECOME AN SU CHAPLAIN IN TASMANIA!
Working as a chaplain can be a challenging, but rewarding position. A chaplain’s primary role is to provide proactive support and pastoral care for students, as well as their families and school staff members where required. Your aim is to create a positive and safe school environment, looking out for those in need.
VACANCIES
NORTH
We have the following vacancies in the North:
- Riverside HS – 15 hours per week > three days, five hours per day.
- Riverside PS – 12 hours per week > two days, six hours per day.
- Deloraine HS – 25 hours per week > five days, five hours per day.
- Trevallyn PS – 10 hours per week > two days, five hours per day.
- Scottsdale HS – 5 hours per week > one day, five hours.
- South George Town PS – 12 hours per week > two days, six hours per day.
- Port Dalrymple School – 12 hours per week > two days, six hours per day.
- St Marys District School – 12 hours per week > two days, six hours per day.
- St Helens District High School – 10 hours per week > two days, five hours per day.
SOUTH
We have the following vacancies in the South:
- Campbell Town DS – 20 hours per week > four days, five hours per day.
- Hobart City HS – 6 hours per week
- Tasman DS – 10 hours per week
- New Norfolk HS – 12 hours per week > two days
- Lindisfarne North PS – 7 hours per week > one day
- Elizabeth College – 12 hours per week
- Jordan River Senior School – 10 hours per week
- Clarence HS – 10 hours per week
NORTH WEST
We have the following vacancies in the North West:
- Yolla HS – 12 hours per week > 2 days, six hours per day.
- Edith Creek PS – 13 hours per week > two days, 6.5 hours per day.
- Smithton HS – 10 hours per week > two days, five hours per day.
- Smithton PS – 18 hours per week > three days, six hours per day.
REQUIREMENTS
Potential applicants for chaplaincy positions should:
- accept, respect and relate to all members of diverse school communities in accordance with the school chaplaincy guidelines established by the Tasmanian Department of Education
- have appropriate qualifications (at least a Cert IV in Youth Work, Pastoral Care or higher)
- be experienced & confident in working with young people
- be actively involved in a Christian community.
The minimum qualification for a school chaplain is a Certificate IV in Youth Work, Pastoral Care, or Community Work. For your qualification to meet the minimum requirements, it must include a unit on mental health, as well as one on responsible referral:
- CHCCCS016 – Respond to Client Needs
- CHCMHS001 – Work with People with Mental Health Issues
National School Chaplaincy Program (NSCP) chaplains are required to complete this eSafety training, which is a live, free webinar-based resource for NSCP-funded school chaplains.
SU Australia is a ChildSafe organisation. Our chaplains must complete training on M3 Keeping Children and Vulnerable People Safe before commencing their work at school.
